Maurizio Ravalico is a percussionist, improviser, composer and indefatigable searcher of the sound hidden inside inanimate things. Based in London since 1991, he has toured and recorded with, among others, Jamiroquai, Paul McCartney, James Taylor, Jesus Alemani, Snowboy, Alex Wilson, Dennis Rollins, Greg Osby, Kaidi Tatham, Dego McFarland, Finn Peters, John Edwards, Steve Beresford, Orphy Robinson, Rowland Sutherland, Oren Marshall, Shabaka Hutchings, Andrea Parkins, Dele Sosimi, Tamar Osborn’s Collocutor and the choreographers Lea Anderson, Bill T. Jones, Maja Garcìa, Jane Turner and Laura Simi. His most recent projects area solo percussion album, entitled “Nobody’s Husband, Nobody’s Dad”, and the creation of “The Loud Atlas” a duo piece for one percussionist and one dancer, produced with the Normandy-based company Silenda.
Thodoris Ziarkas is a multi-instrumentalist, improviser and composer.
Growing up with the sounds of Greek folk music primarily playing regional instruments such as the Lyra and tsambouna, Thodoris evolved through different trajectories to discover the double bass. Based in London since 2009 he is the co-founder of the group Valia Calda, also presenting solo work [Reconstruction] as well as leading Thodoris Ziarkas’s USCITA. Other projects include the London Improvisers Orchestra, AMAN! and the collaboration with dance artist Georgia Paizi on the ongoing project the SEED. Other collaborations include: Alan Wilkinson, Anna Homler, James Allsopp, Steve Beresford, Savina Yannatou, Chris Batchelor, Maggy Nichols, Beibei Wang, Adam Bohman, Terry Day, Sharon Gal, Tasos Stamou.
Thodoris Ziarks and Maddalena Ghezzi have collaborated on Amethyst, an EP part of Ghezzi’s series Minerals.
Maddalena Ghezzi, originally from Milan (IT), is a London based singer, composer and improviser. As a leader she has released two EPs, Amethyst and Halite, part of her series Minerals, and one album, Eŭropo:sen limoj (Europe With No Borders), with her band FUWAH. Her work was played in many radio shows among which: BBC Radio 3 (Freeness) and renowned Italian Radio Popolare (Prospettive Musicali). Ghezzi was featured in Womxn Of Music Business online platform and her work was covered by The Islington Gazette. As a collaborator, her most recent collaborations are call and responses (Andrew Page), Parasang 8 (Pouya Ehsaei/Manana Records) and Animal Choir (Robbie Judkins). With her projects Maddalena performed at Milan Jazz Festival, at the Southbank Centre and was selected among 400 artists for Jam the Future (Milan Jazz Festival contest 2021).
