After our dear artist & friend Jazmin Velasco left us in 2021, her husband and comrade Colin Moore embraced the loss with a project: to compile, select and present a greatly deserved book covering Jazmin’s extensive and suddenly interrupted art career. The book has been printed in English in a limited edition of 300 with the aim of raising funds for publication of the Mexican edition.
Hundred Years Gallery is very pleased to carry stock of this art book, precious for those who knew and bought Jazmin’s art but also a beautifully compiled general introduction to her work.
“I asked if she was hungry. She looked at me earnestly and said: I’m always hungry. This became one of our things, the little routines that couples devise to celebrate their union. I’d ask her if she was hungry and she’d reply: I’m always hungry. She was too; hungry for knowledge, for understanding, for skill, improvement and freedom”
Colin Moore.
‘Jazmin Velasco was the most completely and incessantly creative artist that I have ever known, never missing an opportunity to make things. There was artistry in every passion she pursued whether it was gardening, cooking or practising martial arts. Activities often overlapped so that gestural watercolours were painted while she ate; detailed narratives and caricatures were drawn in the margins while she read. And the transference of ideas from that fecund mind to the page was done at breathtaking speed. Her sketchbooks alone could fill the pages of two further volumes and I am certainly thankful that I wasn’t the one to choose what to omit.’
