Launch of multi-disciplinary artist, Catrin Osborne‘s photography book, published by Black Dog Press and funded by The Arts Council England.
After their menopause hit them like a ton of bricks, between 2019 and 2015, Catrin travelled the UK meeting women and people experiencing menopause. She photographed them in their happy places and asked them about the positive and negative experiences of menopause. The result was an exhibition that toured the UK throughout 2022, followed by this book. A quote from the back cover: “All too often misunderstood by doctors and society, these women share their first-hand experience of physical and mental symptoms, of shame and isolation, but also of discovery, strength, and newfound freedom. The result is a book that acknowledges their experiences and brings with it a sense of purpose – by talking openly about the menopause now, hopefully the next generation will not suffer in silence, too.”
One of the participants, Serena Bobowski, will be in conversation with Catrin, and the two artists will discuss how the project came about and about Serena’s work “The Crone Interviews”, one of which will be exhibited at the event.
Some of the participants will also read a few words from their interviews in the book. There will be a bar serving tea and alcoholic beverages, and books will be available to buy at the event.
