Tasos Stamou : The Art Of The Ancient Future.
Private View with performance: Thursday 2nd February from 6.30
Originally trained as a visual artist (M.A. degree in Photography, Academy of Fine Arts FAMU in Prague, 2003) Tasos Stamou has worked as a professional photographer before his interest focused in sound art. He had been publishing and exhibiting his photographic work before music became his main topic and he developed a career in contemporary music for the past ten years.
He chose the medium of collage as a platform to reconnect to his visual arts background and to the element of photographic reality. He started creating series of physical collages and digital works, initially made for covering the needs of music albums and posters illustrations. This “hobby” has gradually developed to an individual artistic passion, which led to the creation of various series of physical collages with surreal content and reconstructed realism subject.
The obscure tableau of Stamou’s collages represent his enthusiasm about recycled abandoned printed photographic iconography of the 20th and the 21st Century. Inspired by rather personal stories, the interest of the making process focuses in a poetic reconstruction of contemporary realities through this simple but highly effective medium.
His collage creations have so far been presented in album covers, posters and exhibitions in United Kingdom and Greece.
