Mathew is figurative painter based in London. His work focuses on two subjects : the Crucifixion and the formal portrait as an attempt to fuse together the
existential view points of Francis Bacon with the spirituality of Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio.
The core of his practice is obsessive seriality ; creating a series of paintings based on a single source image until eventually they degrade and the obsession is exhausted.
The exhibition features a series of portraits and figures produced over the last two years.
