Being. UmbilicalExposed No.2 : ‘Being’ by Anya Charikov-Mickleburgh. The artist will be resident in the basement gallery using it as workshop and exhibition space.

First Thursday Late Opening 5th February 6:00-9:00pm

Anya’s practice focuses on painting and expanded making, both of which allow her to communicate the ideas of the inner experience of body and mind. This is her third Solo show. ‘Being’ explores the idea of inner experience from a different angle: the physical and psychological experiences of different emotions and states affecting transition and metamorphosis within. The series of work is engaged with a hybrid of painting and physical form, exploring the link between Cartesian Dualism and Freudian points on Being. The exhibition comprises works on paper and PVC fabrics as well as mixed-media. The latter will be further developed during Anya’s residency at Hundred Years Gallery.  For the opening event visitors are invited to contribute unwanted fabrics and to participate in transforming garments into a piece of art.

Anya Charikov-Mickleburgh is a London-based professional visual artist, graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design with First class Honours Degree in Fine Art. From 2011 worked as an artist’s assistant for Hew Locke. In 2008 awarded with Browne Smith Baker company prize for her painting in Ferens Art Gallery.
