On March 23rd 2020 – the day that the UK went into its first Covid-19 lockdown – Alex Ward‘s first solo guitar album Frames was released by the New York-based record label Relative Pitch, simultaneously with the debut album by his quartet Item 4. Over the ensuing year, with all previously booked work cancelled Alex devoted the majority of his time to creating two further solo albums – a second set of solo guitar pieces entitled The Trade, which was conceived and developed over a two-month period and recorded late May 2020; and the one-man midi/overdubbing studio epic Gated, composed and recorded between July 2020-March 2021. The Trade was released on May 26th 2021 via Cafe Oto’s download-only Takuroku imprint, and Gated will be out on July 13th on Discus Music. On this occasion marking the release of these three solo albums, Alex will be performing two sets of solo guitar, featuring pieces from Frames and The Trade alongside new compositions written over the last few months.
