Mark Hewins has worked extensively with various Canterbury scene musicians, including Elton Dean and Hugh Hopper. His collaboration with Dean continued when they both played as members of Soft Heap with Pip Pyle and John Greaves. Hewins’ creativity brought him to the attention of musicians such as Watts (Amalgam), and John Stevens (Away) who gave him opportunities to play with South African musicians, Dudu Pukwana, Louis Moholo and Mervyn Afrika and a place in the Dance Orchestra (CD A Luta Continua – featuring Phil Collins, John Martyn, bassist Danny Thompson and Elton Dean who he has probably duetted more frequently with than with any other musician. Over the years musical liaisons have flourished; US jazz collaborations include work in New York with Dennis Gonzalez and Andrew Cyrille, CD âÄòThe Earth and Heart, and in Europe with Django Bates in Research Social Systems.

Ntshuks Bonga has worked in the areas of improvised music and South African Jazz since the early 1990s. Formative experiences include various Maggie Nicols projects and work in the groups of Louis Moholo-Moholo, Claude Deppa and Lucky Ranku. In addition to forming groups including Tshisa (with Ken Hyder and Marcio Mattos) and the South African tunes based Tokolosho and Qwati, Ntshuks has been part of the UK improv scene and has played with many of its wonderful musicians over the decades. Other areas of musical activity include work with Robyn Hitchcock and Lydia Lunch, and touring with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Stuart Wilding is an improvising percussionist, playing a mixture of junk percussion, lap harp and cello. He is active in several current collaborations: Ghost Mind, Longstone, Lo-fi Ensemble, Mike Adcock duo, Pete Robson duo, Professori Sognare, Madrona, the Cheltenham Improvisers Orchestra and Chris Cundy’s Speed Hobby. He currently runs the Lo-fi Improvised music Workshops in Camberwell. In the past he has worked in a number of smaller improvising ensembles and with the Flying Down Trio, Hither Green Drone Orchestra and Makeshift. He was also a performer and musician with the Hand in Glove Performance Group.
