Hyelim Kim – taegŭm
Hyelim Kim is a taegŭm performer, composer and researcher. She is opening new possibilities for Korean music by using a traditional instrument, the taegŭm, as a tool to promote exchange with different musical cultures. Kim is receiving attention for taking a leading role in breathing new life into Korean traditional music. She was selected as Pioneering Artist of 2009-2010 by the Korean Arts Council and Kumho Young Artist for 2006. She was awarded the New York Omi Residency in 2009 and was invited as a musician for a live session on BBC Radio 3’s celebrated Late Junction in December 2012. In her research, Kim systematically charts traditional Korean music.
Blanca Regina is an interdisciplinary artist, tutor and independent curator based in London who works with spontaneous composition systems using voice, objects, electronics and visuals. She creates films, music, videomapping, design projects and book arts.
Canadian saxophonist Yves Charuest began his professional musical activities in the 1980s, playing with several Canadian musicians such as Michel Ratté, Jean Beaudet, Lisle Ellis, Jean Derome and Pierre Cartier in various groups. He was also a member of the Peter Kowald Trio (with German bassist Peter Kowald and South African drummer Louis Moholo) with whom he has performed in Canada, the United States and Europe. He has performed with internationally active musicians such as William Parker, John Betsch and Mathias Schubert, and has collaborated with Canadian electroacoustic composers Jean-François Denis, Jef Chippewa and Jean Piché.
Olie Brice is an improvising double bassist from London. He leads two bands – a quintet that plays his original compositions and a freely improvising trio featuring Tobias Delius and Mark Sanders. He has also worked with musicians including Paul Dunmall, Tony Malaby, Steve Swell, Achim Kaufmann, Alex Ward and Ingrid Laubrock.
Tom Jackson is a clarinettist and saxophonist based in London. He is largely dedicated to the fields of contemporary classical music and free improvisation, and regularly performs with European improvisers and contemporary ensembles.
Benedict Taylor is a solo violist & composer. He is an active figure within the area of contemporary string performance, at the forefront of the British & European new and improvised music scene. As an improviser, he has worked with Evan Parker, Terry Day, Keith Tippett, Wadada Leo Smith, Alex Ward, Renee Baker, Steve Beresford, Angharad Davies, Hannah Marshall, Tom Jackson, Phil Minton, Pat Thomas, Miya, Tetsu Saito, Gianni Mimmo, Daniel Thompson, Veryan Weston, Sylvia Hallett, Dirk Serries, Stephen Crowe amongst others.
