There is a big wide open space between bass, trumpet, and drums – and while continuing to explore this Open Territory in trio format, the idea takes on a new dimension when we expand the elemental line-up by doubling up both the bass and the trumpet. ‘Double Trouble’ allows us to keep that big open space, while combining in many more and various ways… And also blurs the lines that usually distinguish who is doing what, which maybe unloads some of the responsibility from the shoulders of individual soloists, and allows us bounce off each other both more closely and more freely than ever.

The evening will feature two short trio pieces, a short quartet piece of trumpets and basses, and several whole band improvisations. What a pleasure it will surely be to do so in such great company as this?! Tonight’s dream team have all worked/played together before in other combinations ranging from duos and trios to larger groups such as David Leahy’s Musicians in Space and the London Improvisers Orchestra – but never before in this combination. Let’s see what ‘Double Trouble’ we can set off this time round!www.lozspeyer.com
