An important name in the Chinese free improvisation scene, Mai mai arrives from Shanghai with a last-minute show at Hundred Years Gallery.

MAI mai will be playing duos and trio with Zheng Hao and Li Song, alongside Eddie Nuttall (Blue Harbour)

“Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” From MAl mai Plays The Beatles Vol 2: MAI mai’s haunted rendition of The Beatles’ psychedelic classic eerily features the ringing of mic feedback, seemingly played like the amps are joining in wailing chorus. At times the music grinds to a complete halt. There are now three volumes of MAI mai’s Beatles tapes, and Wenbo says that they have been crucial in shaping the future direction of the label. Zheng Hao : Born in Wuhan; based in London. Mainly use electronics or electro-acoustic instruments for solo and group improvisation – currently focused on exploring the amorphous in different sound spaces.

Li Song is a London-based musician and software engineer. He performs improvised music with his computer and composes music using electronics and acoustic instruments. His collaborative project with Zhu Wenbo, No Performance, focuses on compositions using environment sounds, acoustic instruments, computer algorithms, and random sequence. He is also a member of computer network music ensemble and research group, [ _ _ _ ] (with Jia Liu and Shuoxin Tan), focusing on algorithmic collaboration.
