Viv Corringham / Kate Carr / Matt Atkins: three solos and a trio

Viv Corringham (voice, processing, field recordings)
Viv Corringham (New York/ London) is a singer and sound artist, described as “a vital force in improvised music since the late 1970s” (BBC R3). She uses voice, electronics and environmental recordings, performing solo and with improvisers including Charles Hayward, Pat Thomas, Pauline Oliveros, Elliott Sharp, Mike Cooper, and Maggie Nicols, She also leads sound-walks and teaches Oliveros’s Deep Listening, having studied with her. This practice took her to Mexico, Germany, Spain and Hong Kong in 2024. Much of her work is based on walking, either solo (album “Soundwalkscapes” – Bandcamp’s Best Field Recordings 2024 ) or with other people. Her definitive contribution to sound art practice is her 20 year ongoing “Shadow-walks” which have occurred in 18 countries, are taught in sound art classes and have been the focus of articles in many books and journals. vivcorringham.org
Kate Carr (objects)
Kate Carr’s practice explores the encounters, textures and technologies entangled with field recording using movement, objects and experimental recording techniques. She creates intimate, delicate and hybrid soundworlds which centre the interactions and collectivity which generate soundscapes. She works across composition, performance and installation. Everything from vibrations caused by cars and footfalls, to overheard murmurs, public speeches, music in public space, and the roar of distant sporting events has found its way into her compositions, and live performances. Inspired by the layers, minglings and silences in our collective soundscapes, Carr is interested in composing works probe the soundscape for clues as to how we negotiate living together. She is particularly focused on hybrid soundscapes: where forest meets town, nuclear power plant meets wetland, booming car stereo meets residential street.
Matt Atkins (percussion & sound/visual)
Matt Atkins is an improvising percussionist and sound/visual artist who uses electronics, objects and tape loops in his work. He has released music on labels such as Falt, Rusted Tone Recordings, Invisible City, Whitelab Recs, tsss tapes, Coherent States, Steep Gloss, Flaming Pines, Wabi Sabi Tapes, Dasa Tapes and Chocolate Monk, among others. Since 2006 he has run the label MRM recordings.
