Attila Gyárfás and Gabriel Zucker have been making music since they met in 2017 in New York. Their duo infuses sonic and rhythmic freedom into complex, maximalist compositions. Their first record together, Cities and Deserts, was recorded in October 2021 in Budapest, and released earlier this year on Hunnia Records.
“Piano firebrand” (Brooklyn Rail) Gabriel Zucker is a pianist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist from New York, whose work combines maximalist compositions with the progressive improvisation of New York’s creative music scene. His music has received two ASCAP composition awards, and has been praised in Downbeat (4.5 stars), All About Jazz (4.5 stars), Stereogum, Jazzwise, and the New York City Jazz Record. A Yale graduate and Rhodes Scholar, Zucker has performed throughout New York at such venues as Carnegie Hall, The Stone, Roulette, and the Jazz Gallery, as well as in 22 countries around the world. Attila Gyárfás is a Hungarian drummer, composer, and improvisor, who has appeared on over 20 records and has performed at a great number of major venues and festivals all over Europe, such as the Bimhuis in Amsterdam, the Palace of Arts in Budapest, and the Porgy & Bess in Vienna. As a member of various groups, he has won several awards, including the European Young Artists’ Jazz Award Burghausen 2017 and the Keep an Eye – The Records in 2015. He graduated at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague with Cum Laude honours, and he earned his master’s degree at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. More info: dreamcymbals.com/attila-gyarfas
Charlotte Keeffe & Lara Jones
Charlotte Keefe : Trumpeter/Flugelhorn player Charlotte Keeffe plays regularly in the London Improvisers Orchestra and and has shared Concert bills/performed alongside the likes of John Edwards, Henry Lowther, Steve Noble, John Butcher, Steve Beresford and Mark Sanders. Charlotte performs as a Soloist and as part of her Trio, Space Painters, with Guitarists – Joe Smith Sands and Diego Sampieri.
She has a Duo with Trumpeter Kim Macari Stone-Lonergan and is part of Discus Music’s Martin Archer’s Hi-Res Art Quintet and Anthropology Ensemble. She has assisted Guitarist John Russell with establishing the Mopomoso Workshop Group/MoWo.
Lara Jones : A member of award-winning trio J Frisco (Jazz North Introduces) and 4 piece Beyond Albedo (Northern Line), Lara Jones is a saxophonist, improviser, composer, educator and collaborator based between Leeds and London.
She creates immersive, meditative soundscapes with solo saxophone & electronics; using live processing and field recordings. As a soloist, Lara has recently graduated from Manchester Jazz Festival’s Hothouse Programme which commissioned her to write a new series of audio-visual based works for saxophone & electronics. She has received the Jerwood Jazz Encounters Fellowship to develop this work into an interactive installation in train stations and through Brighter Sound is receiving mentorship from Anna Meredith.
She has recently released her debut solo album ‘Ensō’ which has recently been featured on BBC Radio 3’s ‘Freeness’ and in London Jazz News.
