Rita Says (The Jerico Orchestra) and archivist Rosemary Antrobus present Conversation Piece #1 an event dedicated to the work of pioneering British 1960s artist Jules Baker. Baker was at the forefront of 1960s practice combining performance with sculpture in an effort to break down the barrier between fine art and everyday life. His radical use of materials, situations and collective/collaborative methods stand out during a period of British performance often overlooked by mainstream art historians.
At this event Rita Says and Rosemary Antrobus will show a slide presentation of Baker’s most powerful work and discuss his history, influences, legacy and ongoing relevance to contemporary art. Join us in celebrating the work of one of Britain’s great sculptors and help insure that his brilliant work is not written out of history.
