‘The Lobbus’. Saturday 14th of September from 7.30

The Lobbus is a six piece group featuring some of the UK’s finest young improvising musicians, from across the country. Lead by guitarist and composer Tobie Carpenter, the band play Carpenter’s original material, inspired by a range of musical traditions, particularly, Jazz, Folk and Baroque. After recording an album in May 2012 (http://tobiecarpenter.com/listen-now/), this date is one of a new series of live performance for the full ensemble. The group has received high praise for the way lines between improvisation and composition are blurred. Expect to hear thoughtful, contrapuntal writing , setting the scene for compelling improvisations. The Lobbus play instrumental music, inspired by song.

“…this all star six piece lineup sound truly fantastic playing Carpenter’s emotive, thoughtfully unravelling compositions. Definitely one to watch.” Kari Nergaard Bleivik – LIMA
“…a retro feel full of modern surprises, very enjoyable.” Tony Dudley Evans – Cheltenham Jazz Festival
“A hugely original project, often evoking the music of Bill Frisell…Very promising stuff.” Liam Noble

Matt Holborn – Violin
Chris Young – Alto Saxophone
