Joe Wright – saxophones
Joe Wright is an award winning saxophonist and electronic musician working around the UK as an improviser, sound designer, composer and musical director. He is currently a member of the electro-acoustic improv trio duck-rabbit, performs improvised solo saxophone sets, a PhD student at Birmingham Conservatoire / Birmingham City University and works as the Musical Director of the children’s dance & music company aboutNOWish
Hyelim Kim – taegŭm
Hyelim Kim is a taegŭm performer, composer and researcher. She is opening new possibilities for Korean music by using a traditional instrument, the taegŭm, as a tool to promote exchange with different musical cultures. Kim obtained her undergraduate and masters degrees from Seoul National University, and PhD from SOAS, University of London, where she explored potentials for the globalization of Korean music.
Kim is receiving attention for taking a leading role in breathing new life into Korean traditional music. She was selected as Pioneering Artist of 2009-2010 by the Korean Arts Council and Kumho Young Artist for 2006. She was awarded the New York Omi Residency in 2009 and was invited as a musician for a live session on BBC Radio 3’s celebrated Late Junction in December 2012. She has given many performances abroad, including three recitals at the 2High Festival (Australia), the Omi World Music Concert (New York), the Sori Art Electroacoustic Concert (Australia), at NZEMS (New Zealand), Ethno Sweden (Sweden), Fest der Innenhöfe (Germany) and World Classics (England). In her research, Kim systematically charts traditional Korean music.
Alison Blunt – violin
Alison Blunt was born in Mombasa, Kenya, grew up in Nairobi and subsequently in the Lake District, UK. Finding her way from a classical violin training at Birmingham Conservatoire and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Alison’s fascination with sound, motion and space has led her into national and international projects exploring the boundaries between art forms and genres and creating, performing and recording new music. She has performed around the world with a wide range of artists including Barrel, Barcode Quartet, Viv Corringham, John Edwards, HANAM Quintet, Tony Marsh, Phil Minton London and Berlin Improvisers Orchestras, Evan Parker, Pierette Ensemble, Gino Robair, and Mark Sanders.
Hannah Marshall – cello
Hannah Marshall is an improvising cellist. She began with classical studies, then found inspiration in John Stevens’ – Search & Reflect and has been exploring the outer reaches of cello technique ever since. She plays all over the world and regularly collaborates with musicians such as Fred Frith, Steve Beresford, Kay Grant, Roger Turner, Veryan Weston, Lauren Kinsella, Evan Parker and many more.
