Far-seeing or far-sighted qualities are often undervalued in Western culture’s obsessions with the instant and with an inclination for short cuts to a destination or goal. Lungimirante musicians share a pre-occupation with observing and listening to the incidents that don’t clamour for attention, the ones that are often ignored or overlooked. First performing together in 2013, the ensemble has much history in prior collaborations across the ensemble and these furnish it with a depth and scope beyond the rare performances to date in UK’s various respected creative music settings.

about the musicians
MIMMO
Gianni Mimmo has built an international reputation for his unique treatment of musical timbre and his exploration of the advanced techniques on the soprano saxophone. His peculiar work is mainly focused on the relationship among distant artistic declinations and his style is based on a deep knowledge of the instrument and on a sound consciousness which is the constitutional element of his voice. Gianni has developed a unique blend of abstract lyricism and contemporary flavours. His projects have been excellently reviewed by international magazines and webzines.
In the last few years some features of his music have shifted to unsuspected directions and his personal curiosity led him to new connections adding some fresh subtleness to his instrumental tone and developing a more compositional attitude to his improvisation. As composer he often works with graphic scores where elements coming from different musical
languages find a new form where fragments and more unbound ideas ask for a fresher interpretation and performing responsibility.
His pantheon is pretty crowded and includes several names coming from art, music and philosophy: painters like Jackson Pollock, John McLaughlin, Toti Scialoja, Mario Sironi, Felice Casorati; adventurous jazz musicians like Steve Lacy, Roscoe Mitchell, contemporary souls like John Cage, Robert Ashely, Earle Brown, philosophers and beautiful minds like Giorgio Agamben and John Berger, writers like Yasunari Kawabata and Herman Melville, poets like Marina Cvetaeva and Wisława Szymborska.

CORRINGHAM
Viv Corringham is a British vocalist, composer and soundscape artist, currently based in New York, USA. who has worked internationally since the late 1970s. Her work includes performance, installations, radio and soundwalks. She is a 2012 and 2006 McKnight Composer Fellow through
American Composers Forum, 2015 resident artist at Harvestworks Media Arts, NYC and is certified to teach Deep Listening by Pauline Oliveros. Her work has received international recognition and been presented in twenty five countries on five continents.
Work presented in the last 12 months includes New York (Electronic Art festival), Bangalore, Calcutta and Delhi, India (performances and workshops), Tokyo (performances) Hong Kong (multichannel festival), Taipei (performance), Shantou China (performance), Athens (Borderline festival), Brussels (Tempo al Tempo festival) London (Discovery festival), The Alp-Adriatic Region (Echoes from Invisible Landscapes) and Torino (La collera delle lumache), an artist residency in Venice (Emily Harvey Foundation), and work as artist mentor in Manila and Hong Kong (soundpocket).
Invited residencies have occurred at soundpocket Hong Kong; Montalvo Art Center CA; Memorial University Newfoundland; Cal State University, CA; Sound Meetings Syros, Greece; Cobh Art Centre Ireland; Radio Papesse Florence. MARSHALL
Hannah Marshall is a musician who explores different approaches to playing the ‘Cello. She makes sound recordings, composes music & makes visual theatre. Doing this in order to experiment with different ways of experiencing & creating performance, music, sound and stories. She also works with other musicians as well as dance, live art & film. She have received grants and commissions from Sound And Music, Jazz Services, Eyemusic and The Arts Council England for creation of new music and theatre in the UK, and was nominated for an Arts Foundation Award 2017. She has had music and
performances broadcast on Radio 3's Jazz on 3 & Resonance FM. Over the last 10 years she has performed extensively in the UK and Europe as well as Russia & Brazil. She studied the 'Cello at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, teaching and community music making with Community Music LTD, and continues to study and learn from her experiences as a performer, collaborator, theatre maker and composer. Since a classical violin training, Alison Blunt has been creating and performing new work utilising or consisting of improvisation. She has performed throughout Europe, Scandinavia, US, Brazil, Australia and New Zealand with a wide array of sonic magicians including Avreeayl Ra, Renee Baker, Lawrence Casserley, Cristiano Calcagnile, Viv Corringham, John Edwards, Pete Flood, Annette Giesriegl, Elisabeth Harnik, Tristan Honsinger, Anna Kaluza, Josef Klammer, Audrey Lauro, Hannah Marshall, Gianni Mimmo, Maggie Nicols, Evan Parker, Mark Sanders, Ignaz Schick, Harri Sjöström, Ricardo Tejero, Ove Volquartz, Beibei Wang, Ute Wasserman and Trevor Watts and many ‘ad hoc’ and established ensembles including BARREL, Barcode Quartet, Berlin Improvisers Orchestra, Dialogues

With a long-standing involvement in interdisciplinary collaborations and performance, Blunt was a member of collective ASITIS and companies Experiments in Spontaneous Performance and Apocryphal Theatre, and amongst broader performance and research activities, has collaborated with writer/playwright/director Julia Barclay-Morton, solar power installation artist Allan Giddy, Butoh dancer Florencia Guerberof, visual artist Birthe Jorgensen, visual artist/film maker Kate McMillan and voice & movement artist/actor/director Guy Dartnell.
Several of Alison’s collaborative recordings have been aired on BBC radio and various international counterparts and her voice is occasionally heard in interview. A highly experienced and innovative workshop leader exploring music with people of all ages and abilities, Alison refuses to be pigeon-
holed.

Vinny Golia
Vinny Golia : as a composer he fuses jazz, contemporary classical and world music. As a bandleader, he has presented his music to audiences all over the world in small and very large ensembles and with widely contrasting instrumentation. Amongst others, he’s worked with Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, Joelle Leandre, Leo Smith, Tim Berne, John Zorn, Patti Smith, George Lewis, Anthony Braxton, Misha Mengelberg, Henry Grimes, Lydia Lunch and Han Bennick. He’s written scores for ballet, theatre and for film and he’s lectured on various subjects including painting.
John Edwards
Edwards has always been involved with a wide diversity of musical styles and situations. At home with composed and improvised music he is one of the busiest musicians on the scene. He is involved in dozens of projects and groups, performing at major festivals throughout Europe as well as in Brazil, Mexico, US, Turkey, Canada, Russia …With the Stellari String Quartet he performed and gave master classes at the Luzerne Contemporary Music festival.
Probably best known for his work with Evan Parker, John Butcher, Peter Broetzmann, Roscoe Mitchell, Wadada Smith, Sonny Murray etc, he has been in groups such as God and B-shops for the Poor, while at present continues to collaborate with electro-accoustic composer John Wall,Robert Wyatt, Spring Heel Jack, FunDaMental and play in groups with Mulatu Astatke, Louis Moholo, Marshall Allen,Ingrid Laubrock, Charles Hayward, to name a few… In contemporary dance he worked with Virgilio Sieni,The Cholmondeleys and Featherstonehaughs for many years, Mal Pelo, Fine Kwiatkowski and others…
He features on close to 200 recordings. His solo CD "Volume" on Evan Parker’s PSI label received critical acclaim.
