An all-electronics gig featuring the debut from a new trio of Martin Hackett, David Grundy and Laurel Uziell; as well as performances from Lawrence Casserly, Phil Durrant and Bruno Guastalla, in various configurations.

Martin Hackett is a member of Oxford Improvisers and the Muzzix collective in Lille, France. He has been playing improvised music of one sort or another for as long as he can remember, for the past thirty years largely devoted to an obsessive exploration of the Korg MS10 synthesiser.
David Grundy has played with Oxford Improvisers, the Cheltenham Improviser’s Orchestra, the Jericho Orchestra and other ensembles in Bristol, Oxford, London, and other places, and previously edited a magazine dedicated to jazz and improvised music. Most recently, a cassette release (in duo with Laurel Uziell) appears on cassette label Betwixt and Between.
Laurel Uziell is many different distantly related animals that typically have a long cylindrical tube-like body, no limbs, and no eyes. Contrary to popular belief, “Ringlaurel” is not a laurel at all, but a skin fungus. Their music reviews appear at Stray Landings, and they have a cassette release on Betwixt and Between.

Lawrence Casserley was one of the first students of electronic music at the Royal College of Music, London, in 1967. Since then he has worked in Evan Parker’s Electroacoustic Ensemble using his Signal Processing Instrument to transform other musicians’ sounds in real time, as well as using voice, percussion, home-made instruments and found objects. He has performed and given workshops around the world and is a regular member of Oxford Improvisers.
Phil Durrant’s music includes the ground-breaking Butcher / Russell / Durrant trio which, along with Paul Lovens and Radu Malfatti, recorded Noise from the Shed (1989); the “reductionism” of a trio with Radu Malfatti and Thomas Lehn; and, more recently, his work with Trio Sowari and Mark Wastell’s The SEEN. Durrant plays mandolin and previously played violin; today he will be heard on electronics.
Bruno Guastalla has been a violin and cello maker/restorer for the past forty years, as well as a practising musician. Questions around perception, language and shape-making come up a lot in his work. Bruno plays cello and has collaborated amongst others with Philipp Wachsmann, Dominic Lash and the dancer Macarena Ortuzar. He is a member of Oxford Improvisers and the SET ENSEMBLE.
