Crewdson & Cevanne create an extraordinary sonic world by spinning together electronics and folk, blending their voices with harp and found sounds played on their DIY electronic instruments. They met live on air for London’s Resonance FM. Jumping straight into an improvised broadcast, a new project was born. Crewdson is known for his electronic musical inventions and Cevanne is an award-winning contemporary composer. Together, they have collected field recordings from across the UK to create multi-layered music telling their stories. The result is a modern approach to British song which straddles the traditional and avant-garde, and a debut album due for release this year, funded by PRSF. Their live shows continue in the spirit that sparked their collaboration, and have led them to LSO St Luke’s, Union Chapel, National Portrait Gallery, Cambridge Folk Festival and Cecil Sharp House, amongst others.
Leafcutter John & Devon Loch
Electronic musician, inventor and teacher Leafcutter John explores microcosms of sound through instruments of his own making – be they photo-sensitive grids controlled by bike lights and sparklers, precarious, home-spun Rube Goldberg-isms or glistening modular banks. Leafcutter seems drawn to the aleatoric beauty of natural systems; he could recently be heard baffling Max Reinhardt on Late Junction with an atomic recording of a peeling tangerine, and aurally charting the price of gold at the Roundhouse. For Folktronics, he is joined by Devon Loch for a live duet.
Ingrid Plum
Ingrid Plum’s work has been described in the Guardian as ‘gorgeously atmospheric vocal techniques woven around field recordings & electronics’. Plum uses her voice with extended technique, improvisation, field recordings and electronics, to create layered soundscapes, spoken word and songs. Having performed and exhibited installation sound art and visual art since 2002, she creates work that sits between sound art, improvisation, multi-media installation, neo-classical and contemporary Nordic folk music. The intimacy Plum creates in her recordings and live performance has the honesty of a confessional with the sonic scope of the forests and open coastlines of her native Denmark, that inspire much of her music. With installations that create meditative, sensory stimulative environments and performing stripped back, minimal gigs, she entices you into her hushed world.
