Charlotte Keeffe
Charlotte Keeffe’s unique approach to trumpet playing and passion for improvised/experimental/jazz music has led her to performing regularly across the UK and internationally. Inspired by the likes of Polish trumpeter and composer Tomasz Stańko, Charlotte’s latest project involves exploring and weaving together her new compositions inspiring creative freedom through experimental improvisation. Her new quartet features Alex Ward on guitar, Ashley John Long on double bass and Ben Handysides on drums. Charlotte’s collaboration with Alex Ward extends to his own Item Series projects, performing regularly alongside Bassist Otto Willberg and Drummer Andrew Lisle in Item 4 and Item 10.

Cath Roberts
Cath Roberts’ work explores free improvisation, composition and the music at their meeting point. Her primary outlet as a composer and improviser on baritone saxophone is the quintet Sloth Racket, which has toured widely and released several albums. She leads ten piece improvising ensemble Favourite Animals, and has a long-standing duo with guitarist Anton Hunter, Ripsaw Catfish. As bandmate, Cath is a member of Madwort Sax Quartet, Vole, Article XI and Alex Ward’s Item 10 amongst other groups. She co-runs LUME with Dee Byrne, producing concerts, tours and festivals since 2013 and releasing music on an offshoot label, Luminous. Cath is also part of the group of musicians who run BRÅK, an improvised music series taking place in Brockley, South East London.

Benedict Taylor
Benedict Taylor is a solo violist and composer. He is an active figure within the area of contemporary string performance, at the forefront of the British & European new and improvised music scene. He performs, records & composes internationally, appearing at many venues and festivals including Cafe Oto, Jazz en Nord France, Royal Court Theatre, The Vortex, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, London Contemporary Music Festival, Aldeburgh Festival and ICA London. As an improviser Benedict has worked with leading figures of the music including Evan Parker, Wadada Leo Smith, Phil Minton, Pat Thomas and many others too numerous to mention. Benedict releases music through his own Subverten label as well as co-running CRAM with Daniel Thompson and Tom Jackson, producing live events and releases.

Alex Ward
Alex Ward is a composer, improviser, and performing musician, working primarily with clarinet and guitar. A major figure in improvised music, his current work includes the avant-rock duo Dead Days Beyond Help; various groups which perform his compositions-for-improvisers including Forebrace, the Alex Ward Quintet/Sextet, and the Item series of ensembles (the first of which, Item 10, debuted at Cafe Oto in September 2017); as well as improvising collaborations both regular and ad-hoc with musicians including Steve Noble, Dominic Lash, Kay Grant, Joe Morris and Weasel Walter. Besides his own groups and improvisational work, he also performs in ensembles including the Duck Baker Trio/Quartet, projects with Thurston Moore, and This Is Not This Heat. Much of his work is documented on the label Copepod, which he co-runs with Luke Barlow.
