CRUSH!!! are Sonic Pleasure, Mark Browne, Ian MacGowan and special guest Paul Twine. Each has played for a number of years in a variety of improvising contexts. This group utilises a vast array of found, collected and home-made sound making devices combined with more traditional instruments. Sonic Pleasure is famed for her unique crafting of sound from bricks and masonry, reducing much of her instrumentation to dust by the end of the concert. She also plays flute. Mark Browne plays saxophone, broken glass, percussion, whistles, game calls and bones. Both Ian and Paul will play guitars in an extraordinary manner.
Haymanot Tesfa: Songs and performance using Krar. Haymanot has a strong connection with cheerful colours as she’s a person who grew up in a place where the sun shines the whole year round. She uses colours as a way of communicating with an audience by using them as a language. She will also present some illustrative works at the concert. Her works have a sense of humour, this eases the subject when it becomes too intense; like mixing sweet and sour. Her music and art are inspired by many things on earth — living life is her main inspiration as it gives her the opportunity to admire nature and share experiences with other people. As she says: There are so many things in life’s experiences which can be made into art. So I don’t stick to one subject since I get so many ideas from life.
