Raymond MacDonald is a saxophonist, composer and multidisciplinary artist whose saxophone playing has been described as Raymond MacDonald, a saxophonist, whose saxophone playing has been described as “breathtaking”, “beguiling” and “wonderous” (All About Jazz)
Collaborating with musicians such as Marilyn Crispell, Evan Parker, David Byrne, Jim O’Rourke, Günter ‘Baby’ Sommer and Satoko Fujii, he has released over 60 CDs and toured and broadcast worldwide. He has produced music for film, television, theatre and art installations and is a founder member of The Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra -“One of the best large improvising ensembles in the world.” BBC Jazz on 3. He has a particular interest in cross-disciplinary collaboration and has extensive experience of working with artists, dancers and filmmakers. He has also collaborated extensively with an artificial intelligence producing films, compositions, sculptures, visual art and book a published in 2023 titled Conversations with Chimère. Much of his recent work is collaborative free improvising contexts while his roots in jazz and pop music can be heard in his playing and writing “Quite astonishingly brilliant” Jazz Wise
Claudia Molitor is a composer and artist whose work hovers between music and sound art, extending across contemporary art practices, such as video and installation art. Exploring the role listening can play in our world as well as embracing collaboration as compositional practice is central to much of her practice.
Some larger scale work includes Sonorama, an episodic work for a train journey, with Electra Productions, Turner Contemporary and the British Library, which received a British Composer Award; The Singing Bridge, installed at Somerset House and Waterloo Bridge during the Totally Thames festival; Walking with Partch for the Cologne based ensemble Musikfabrik at hcmf//; the headphone piece Auricularis Superior at the World Music Days in Tallinn (Estonia);the audio-visual installation Listen to my World which toured to Wilde Western (Kortrijk/Belgium), Spor(Aarhus/Denmark), hcmf// (Huddersfield/UK), Onassis Cultural Centre (Athens/Greece), Time of Music(Viitasaari/Finland); A Thousand Words for Weather produced and commissioned by Artangel, installed at Senate House Library; and Fever for the 8 trumpet Monochrome Project.
