John Rangecroft has been active in Improvised Music since the 1970s playing with John Stevens at the Little Theatre Club and touring in Germany and Switzerland. He became a member of 7rpm with Paul Rogers Tony Marsh and Paul Dunmall and played Clarinet on Hot and Cold Heroes the last CD of John Stevens’ Spontaneous Music Ensemble. Recordings followed with the Evan Parker Octet and the Transatlantic Art Ensemble with Roscoe Mitchell on ECM live in Munich and recently in Spain with the Japanese shakuhachi player Shiku Yano.
Neil Metcalfe is a highly regarded and experienced flautist in the field of improvised music.He has collaborated with John Rangecroft and Marcio Mattos over a period extending more than twenty years.His highly acclaimed duo record with John Rangecroft “2Gether “is on Slam Records. He has worked and recorded with John and Marcio in various contexts including Evan Parker’s Free Zone Appleby, the Evan Parker Octet “Crossing the River”,Roscoe Mitchell’s “Composition/Improvisation “and Evan Parker’s “Boustrophedon ” both with the Transatlantic Art Ensemble on ECM Records.In 2014 Neil and John played with the ensemble Twelve for Twelve Musicians at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival broadcast on BBC Radio 3.
Marcio Mattos is a highly-solicited contributor to the international Improvised Music scene, having performed with Evan Parker, John Stevens, Roscoe Mitchell, Roswell Rudd and the Ballet Rambert Dance Company amongst many others. He was a long standing partner with the late Elton Dean and toured with the Bardo State Orchestra. His recent solo record SOL(os) is on Emanem. He has played and recorded with John Rangecroft, notably in the Transatlantic Art Ensemble, ECM. Present projects include the Stellari String Quartet and duo with shakuhachi player Shiku Yano. He is also a ceramic artist.
Dave Tucker was originally a member of the FALL recording the album SLATES before moving to London in the 80s where he played with Phil Waschmann John Stevens Dudu Pukwana, Keith Tippett and Lol Coxhill. He then spent time in the United States recording with the West Coast Project, performing with Bill Roper at the SIMF Festival in Seattle and with Lukas Ligeti in New York. He is a member of the Alan Tomlinson Trio and Scatter with Pat Thomas, Roger Turner and Phil Minton. Together with John Rangecroft and Marcio Mattos, Dave is a member and conductor of the London Improvisors Orchestra.
