Trombone Poetry / MOUTH / ruM. Friday 19th July 19:30

MOUTH is the solo project of Mike Walter (saxophone and synthesizer), performing alone and in collaboration with other artists.

MOUTH has existed as a project for a series of structured durational works, and as an improvising duo with Lol Coxhill.

Mike Walter has a substantial track record as an improvising musician, playing tenor and soprano saxophones, synthesizer, chaos box and who knows what else with bands such as Ape, Jerico Orchestra, One King Poets and countless others, especially a long-standing duo with much-missed Lol Coxhill. He has now added the gentle melodeon to his arsenal.

Paul Taylor has played heaps of music: Latin, African, jazz, brass bands, shenanigans with The Pogues and numberless other things. He now runs a trombone trio, The Blowpipes, and is busily performing trombone poetry everywhere. World music wordplay, free verse fanfares, binge thinking, bad news blues: Paul Taylor’s globe-trotting musical journeys are distilled into a trunkful of engaging poetry, bounced along in a solo set of classic standards, original pieces, and spontaneous compositions.

In their unique combination – ruM – they fling free improv at folk music and bring joy and bewilderment to anyone in earshot.
